Guests must be at the dock in Quirpon by 3:30-3:45PM for the 4:00 PM departure. If you are in the area and would like to go out earlier, stop by, you may want to do a zodiac tour and end up at the inn!


Pack lightly (max 20 lbs/person) as luggage space in the boat may be limited. We have small packs available, if you need one.

Bring warm clothes and footwear (ex. rubber boots or something you don’t mind getting wet) for possible wet conditions while walking, riding the boat and watching whales from the cliffs in the evening.

For walkers (or those nervous about boats) there is a great 5.5 km (1½ - 2 1/2 hour) hike from Grandmother’s Cove at the near end of the island that takes you along the cliffs overlooking the whales and bergs, to the inn. After years, this is still our favourite way of arriving as it is such a beautiful route. Your bag can be sent by boat.

Lighthouses are in locations where nature is in control. In cases of unfavourable seas, we usually land at a very sheltered cove 5.5 kms from the inn. Guests can then walk the path to the inn or drive in our 6 passenger ATV. This, of course, may cause a delay (sorry). If the weather is so extreme the boat cannot run (VERY rare), you will not be charged for your night at the inn and we will endeavour to find alternative accommodations. No refund will be made for guests choosing not to go out in inclement weather.

DIRECTIONS FROM CORNER BROOK - East from Corner Brook for 50 kms (30 miles). As you leave Deer Lake, turn north on Route 430. Route 430 is paved and easily traveled. The first 50 kms (30 miles) are winding through forested hills and then the shore of Bonne Bay. The next 350 Kms are essentially straight and level along the coast. Average speeds are 90 kph (55mph). Ten kilometres before St. Anthony you will see a turn-off for L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site (route 436). Approximately 20 kms along this road you will see a turn-off to Quirpon. Our dock is 3 kms down this road in the tiny town of Quirpon. These directions make the trip sound complicated than it is and if you make a mistake, it is easy to turn around and find your way back.

DIRECTIONS FROM DEER LAKE – From the airport, head west on the TCH. Go approximately 1 kilometre (½ mile) and then right on route 430.
